DIY4X is a company that caters to the "Do It Yourself"
off roader. My name is Kert Cohoon, welcome to my website. In these
pages you will find some of our own off the shelf products and custom
creations for some of our customers. At some point in your off roading
experience you will find that off the shelf products, simply won't
get it done. That is where we come in. We are basically a custom
fabrication shop specializing in off road trucks. We also make parts
for other automotive sports including: dirt track, pulling trucks
and drag racing. Other fabrication shops want to do large runs of
parts, for us it doesn't matter, 1 piece to 1000 pieces, whatever
you need.
What's new?
Just wanted to say thanks to all our customers. This year is only half over and has really been exciting so far. Lots of big changes at the shop that will exponentially increase our capabilities as well as response times. Some benefits of these capabilities are starting to be realized. Check out the EZ inch kit on our suspension page and keep your eyes out for more completely in house machined parts.
Thanks again let us know what your looking for, we'll see what we can cook up.
Recently
DIY4X has been asked the question, "Are you big business?"
Well, I'd like to answer that question right here. This is a subjective
question completely dependant on perspective and definition. So, I'll
define my idea and perception of big business for you.
We
are BIG on customer service! Before the purchase,
during the purchase and after the purchase! Your requirements are
at the heart of our business period!
We are BIG on Quality! If I don't like it you won't
see it! I'm picky and consider every part that leaves the shop my
signature!
We are BIG on value! I try to keep our prices competitive
as possible however, more things go into value than just pricing!
So are we big business. YES! In every way that
it matters in our humble opinion.
Thank you,
Kert Cohoon
DIY4X Owner.

DIY Rig
Updated
10-13-2006!
We
finally got the DIY4X blazer drivable. I say drivable
because, I believe it may never be done. I think we can
go wheeling again though. Here are some specs for you.
500 caddy, SM465, 203/205, 14BFF and a HP dana 60. 4.88:1
gears and both ends are spooled. 44"x 18.5"
- 16.5 tsl's with our custom beadlocks. The frame is boxed
and cage is solid mounted as well as the body and drivetrain.
We've removed all the frame flex so we can tune the suspension
to do what we want it to do. The suspension is comprised
of factory 52" 1/2 ton springs 4+1. A zero rate in
the front and a custom drop away shackle in the rear.
Driveshafts were built in our shop.
Some of the other custom stuff, Custom headers that exit
outside the frame rails through 3" exhaust. 1/2 top
with a lexan window. There is also a Lexan window in the
floor behind the seats which allows view of the rear axle
and a portion of the rear drive shaft. Rear mounted radiator
flows through 2" aluminum tubing from the engine
all the way back which helps keep things cool. Customized
camoflauge interior done by my wife! Thanks babe!
Some other stuff off the top of my head,
Razor back diff covers
custom Backbone truss system
Dual red top optimas
Full hydraulic steering
Ford 205 amp alternator
York on board air compressor
Everything I can think of was built in house. I'm sure
there is more but that is all I can think of right now.
Good to have it drivable again and hopefully we'll see
you wheeling!

It's
a 1985 GMC Jimmy sitting on a 76 frame. Front sheet metal
has been skinned out narrowed and converted to a one peice
tilt front end. The rear has also been skinned and narrowed.
I wanted to keep seating for four people so what I did
was cut the center out of the topper and put it back together
so that the cab would still be weather tight. Under the
small topper I built a wall with some light gauge sheet
metal and square tube. Currently I'm working on installing
a Lexan rear window that will be permanently attached
to the topper.
The axles are a Corp. 14 bolt full floater out back with
4.88 gears and welded carrier. Disc braked and a little
trimming underneath. The front axle is a Ford HP 60 with
4.88 gears. Both axles are wearing DIY4X diff cover kits
for protection. The tires are 44" TSL's on Bart thick
center rims with DIY4X custom beadlocks.
I'm going to begin construction on the full cage in the
next few weeks. Then its time to work on the drive train.
I would really like to find a 500 caddy motor to put in
but haven't had much luck finding one yet. The transmission
will be a NV4500 out of a mid 90's Chevy with the 6.34
first gear. The transfercase will be the NP241 commonly
found behind the same transmission. It won't have a doubler
but with this combination you can get really low crawl
ratios be somewhat light weight and all the parts are
factory.
Like
most off road rigs its a work in progress so check back
often and see how far I get!
